Apple Mac computers are suffering mysterious breakdowns throughout Hollywood. This is causing havoc among studios because they are unable to complete film projects they were working on before the breakdowns started happening.
The underlying issue seems to be a problem with the Avid software that is used in film production, and the Mac Pro computers on which it has been installed. This is causing Apple Macs and other Apple computers to fail to reboot after being switched off.
Quite understandably, there is widespread anxiety among those who totally rely on their computer systems to produce some of the globe’s most famous movies. Users have been warned against switching off their computers for fear of falling prey to the as yet unresolved bug.
In a Twitter post, Avid said that it was “aware of the reboot issue affecting Apple Mac Pro devices running some Avid products”. The company added that the matter has now become top priority for its support and engineering staff, who are working around the clock to find the root cause of the problem and fix it.
Avid also promised to keep users informed about any new developments. The bug seems to have a specific preference for older Mac Pro computers on which Avid’s Media Composer software is installed.
This is a huge problem for a large number of TV show and film producers, because the majority of them appear to be using this particular Avid software on their Apple computers. The matter is further complicated by the fact that Apple is currently busy developing a new Mac Pro, but it will only be launched later in the year.
Right now, the company only sells the 2013 models. This model, which is often jokingly referred to as the ‘trash can’, is still used by large numbers of video editors and individuals who need state-of-the-art devices.
