Leaked images showing the case moulds for Apple’s next-generation smartphone point to the return of a more angular design with ‘squared off’ edges similar to the older iPhone 4 and 5 models.
Over the weekend, Twitter user JinStore uploaded a series of images in a tweet showing the CAD models and case moulds for the rumoured ‘iPhone 12’.
Apple has used a curved and rounded design language for iPhone models during the last five years, but this could finally be about to change.
The images show flat sides all around the device, which would make it similar to the popular iPad Pro devices.
However, the leak also shows front-facing notches that are barely slimmed down from those that feature in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models.
The notch has four holes to house tech such as light sensors and a selfie camera.
The CAD drawings also include a picture that shows off a rear camera setup with three circular cameras in addition to a flash.
This is the first time that this source has provided information about an upcoming iPhone, but the images were widely shared across Twitter on Sunday (14th June).
Official details about the iPhone 12 are still thin on the ground, but insiders are almost unanimous in their belief that four models will be launched later this year – a new 6.7-inch Pro Max and 6.1-inch Pro Max, as well as a 6.1-inch Pro and 5.4-inch standard model.
All of the new iPhones are expected to house OLED displays.
Apple is expected to launch its next-generation handsets in either late Q3 or early Q4 2020.
Plans for the release have been hit by the global pandemic, but Apple is still believed to be on course to enter full production later this summer.
