Apple’s next mobile operating system will reportedly support the same devices as current-generation software, which means that both the older iPhone SE and iPhone 6s should get another year of support.
Apple will unveil iOS 14 at the WWDC event in the summer and French site iPhonesoft has claimed that the current slate of eligible devices will get 12 more months of updates and bug fixes.
It has been more than four years since the launch of the iPhone 6S, but Apple’s commitment to extended support means that it is likely to see out its fifth year with iOS 14.
The compact iPhone SE and every other device released since 2016, including the iPhone 7 and 8, will also be supported when iOS 14 rolls out later this year.
Apple is heading into the final months of development for its new software and iPhonesoft claimed that the support list could change depending on how smoothly everything goes.
It is almost certain that the upcoming successor to the iPhone SE, rumoured to be the iPhone 9 arriving in March, will support iOS 14, as will the upcoming flagship 2020 models.
While smartphones have escaped the chop this year, Apple is expected to make cuts for iPadOS.
The iPad Air 2, powered by the comparatively weak A8 chip and launched way back in October 2014, and the iPad mini 4, which went on sale a year later, are set to be dropped.
It means that the iPad third generation and iPad mini fifth generation will get iPadOS support alongside the newer 12.9-inch iPad Pro and 11-inch iPad Pro models.
iPhonesoft does have a mixed track record as it previously predicted correctly that the iPhone 5s and 6 would be jettisoned for iOS 12, but it was wrong last year when it claimed that the iPhone SE would not get iOS 13.
