Only a week after releasing iOS 12.1.1, Apple is already facing complaints from users that it causes problems with mobile data usage on many iPhones. The latest iOS version reportedly makes it impossible for large numbers of iPhone owners to access the internet without connecting to a Wi-Fi network.
While some users have complained that they can’t access the internet using mobile data at all, others say that this is only a problem with specific applications. Various iPhone owners have reported that they have no issues browsing websites, but that connecting to the internet via applications is impossible.
Apple is apparently working on a possible solution.
That brings us to iOS 12.1.2 beta, which has been released to developers this week, and which should, by the time you read this, also be available for public beta testing. This iOS update focuses on solving ongoing problems from iOS 12 to iOS 12.1.1 – but it’s not known at this stage whether it solves the issue with connecting to the web using mobile data.
Apple’s beta program enables iPhone, iPod and iPad users to test the latest iOS version before its public release. Although the developer program comes with a $99 per year membership fee, public beta testers can run pre-release versions of the operating system and share their opinions with Apple free of charge.
So far in 2018, iOS 12 updates have brought Dual SIM support, Group FaceTime and a few other features.
The Cupertino-based company also runs public beta versions of macOS for MacBook, tvOS for Apple TV, MacBook mini, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, iMac, iMac Pro and Mac mini. Public beta versions of macOS 10.14.3 and tvOS 12.1.2 are also in the pipeline.
The company doesn’t offer a public beta program for watchOS updates, but developers are able to test the latest watchOS update for an annual membership fee.
