If you are the owner of an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus that absolutely refuses to turn on, carry on reading. Apple has announced a zero-cost repair programme for these phones.
If you own an iPhone 6S, standard or Plus that simply won’t power on regardless of what you do, all you have to do is visit your nearest Apple Authorised Service Provider and request a free repair.
However, don’t stop reading just yet as your phone might not qualify. Not all defective iPhone 6S devices are eligible for the free repair programme.
In a post on Apple’s support page, it is explained that the particular issue that causes certain iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus devices not to turn on affects only a specific batch of devices made between October 2018 and August this year.
So, if you own an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus that was made after August 2019 or before October last year, you do not qualify for this offer. It’s easy to find out: just make a note of the serial number of your device on the box and head for Apple’s support page.
If your iPhone turns out to be one that qualifies for a gratis repair, take it to your nearest Apple service centre to have it fixed. There’s more good news: if you already paid to have your qualifying iPhone fixed, Apple will refund the repair cost if you contact them.
Strangely enough, although Apple has admitted that the issue is caused by a faulty component, it has so far not released any information about the exact nature of the problem. Its support page merely states: “Apple has determined that certain iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices may not power on due to a component that may fail.”
