Forget about syncing iTunes from Mac or PC

Last week Apple released the iPhone X as well as the iPhone 8 range. And hot on the heels of that, the company has now also announced an important upgrade for its cross-platform iTunes music player/organiser application. The latest release offers support for iOS 11 and boasts a couple of interesting new features.

Every time Apple releases a new iOS version it also brings out an update for iTunes, so users can sync their various devices. It seems that iTunes 12.7 will not only enable you to sync your Windows and Mac computers, but it will also bring a number of new and revised features.

The list includes adding iTunes U collections to the Apple Podcasts range, and a new feature allowing you and your friends to share your taste in music via Instagram or Facebook by creating a profile on either of these.

The company said: “iTunes U collections are now part of the Apple Podcasts family. Search and explore free educational content produced by leading schools, universities, museums, and cultural institutions all in one place.”
iTunes 12.7 seems to be a hot discussion topic among users, however. It appears that Apple now wants them to utilise the new App store in iOS 11 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices if they wish to sync not only apps but also ringtones that they’ve purchased.

To put it differently, iTunes now makes it impossible to sync your iOS ringtones or apps on any of these devices from your Windows PC or Mac, since the company has dropped support for the iOS App Store in iTunes.

Meanwhile everything is on track for iOS’s official release tomorrow. It will support iPhone 7, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S devices, as well as the recently released iPhone X and iPhone 8 models.
