Apple kicked off its 2020 release slate in earnest last week with the iPhone SE, but it still has plenty in store for the remainder of the year with cheaper AirPods next on the list, according to insiders.
There were several leaks of Apple’s upcoming product line over the weekend, with new desktop and laptop devices set to debut before the end of 2020 and the first mention of a first-party manufactured game controller.
First up will be a new pair of budget-centric AirPods, which are very close to being announced after being pushed back from an initial March release date due to the cancellation of the annual spring event.
The new earbuds, like the iPhone SE, will be positioned as a cheaper alternative to Apple’s premium products.
Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but they are tipped to look exactly the same as the 2019 AirPods with a few downgrades elsewhere.
That could mean a smaller battery and a drop off in audio quality, though there has been no confirmation yet of what exactly Apple has in store.
The rumours also point to the release of two new iPads, with one of those being an iPad Air with Touch ID located under a mini LED screen.
There was also another source claiming that the iPhone 12 will have four models with a standard 6.1-inch iPhone 12 joined by a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone Pro, and an iPhone 12 Lite, which could be around 5.4 inches in size.
All of the iPhone models are said to support next-gen 5G mobile networks and Apple’s faster A14 chip set.
Looking further ahead, Apple is also rumoured to be developing its own controller as it looks to continue its support for Apple Arcade and its general gaming push on smartphones and tablets.
