Apple has a size refresh in the works for its MacBook Pro line after renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed the company’s plans to launch a 14.1-inch laptop before the end of the year.
In a device-packed note on Wednesday, Kuo said that Apple will include a mini-LED screen in the new device, which is a type of display that offers contrast and black levels similar to OLED but without some of the issues such as burn-in.
The footprint of the updated MacBook Pro is not yet known, but it is likely to feature slimmer bezels to house the screen, which is larger than the current 13.3-inch model that Apple sells.
Five other devices slated for a 2020 release will also have the mini-LED display, according to Kuo.
There will be an updated 27-inch iMac Pro and a refresh of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which initially launched last year to widespread acclaim.
The iPad family will also get an update with a 7.9-inch iPad Mini, 10.2-inch iPad and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Some fans were worried that Apple might drop the more budget-friendly iPad Mini entirely, but that’s not the case and it will get a nice new display.
The size remains the same as the previous generation, so it may still sport larger bezels and a home button.
A new iMac Pro is also a welcome surprise as it has not had a new coat of paint or internals since its previous release in late 2017.
Its future was also thrown into doubt after the eye-catching Mac Pro was released in 2019, but the rumours suggest that there is still space for a high-spec desktop device with a display.
Kuo said that the new devices should go on sale during the final three months of this year (Q4 2020).
