Apple officially launches its new TV app

Apple TV and iOS users rejoice: Apple launched its new TV app this week, which is expected to contain Apple TV+ when it kicks off this fall.

In the news release, the company said that users can now subscribe to the Apple TV channels they want in the app, and view them whenever they please.

In the United States, the list of paid channels includes names such as MTV hits, Tastemade, Epix, Smithsonian Channel, Showtime, Starz and HBO. The app enables users to stream content from paid channels, or download it for offline viewing.

According to Apple, this makes its new TV app the “first and only place where HBO subscribers can download movies and shows such as Game of Thrones for offline viewing.”

As many as six family members can share a subscribed Apple TV channel by using the app’s Family Sharing facility. The company added that, with Game of Thrones coming to an end this weekend, the new Apple TV app can help users find something else to watch. It features customised recommendations from a library of nearly 150 streaming services and video apps, as well as 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows.

To get quick access to the movies and shows you have been watching, simply visit the Watch Now section to view “expertly curated collections based on a secure and comprehensive understanding of [your] viewing interests.”

Alternatively, move over to the freshly updated Library tab to view shows and movies you have bought from iTunes.

In the Kids section, there are “editorially handpicked” movies and shows aimed at kids of all ages, as well as a Sports section for watching games. Those who have a 4K TV might be impressed with what Apple calls the biggest collection of 4K HDR titles to buy, rent or browse.
