Apple will reportedly launch new iPad Pro models with ultrafast 5G and new Mini-LED screens during the first half of next year, according to renowned leaker @L0vetodream.
Apple’s premium iPad Pro devices have been a huge hit with consumers, bringing cutting-edge tech including fast refresh rate 120Hz displays in an increasingly slim and light form factor.
The improvements will keep on coming in 2021 with two new models that will house Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modem for next-gen 5G connectivity.
Qualcomm says: “The Qualcomm Snapdragon™ X55 5G Modem-RF System is a comprehensive modem-to-antenna solution designed to allow OEMs to build 5G multimode devices for a new era of connected experiences.”
The tech could potentially deliver speeds of up to 7.5Gbps, though real-world speeds are likely to be around 1Gbps.
The new iPads will also include Mini-LED screens, which is a new type of display tech that offers better contrast and deeper blacks compared to standard LCD displays.
Apple has used OLED displays in its iPhones but is believed to prefer Mini-LED as it offers similar benefits without OLED’s susceptibility to image burn-in.
The new iPad Pros are set to get another boost in the CPU department.
The latest leakers point to the use of an A14X processor, an improvement on the A12X chip used in the current line-up of iPad Pros.
The details revealed by L0vetodream have not been confirmed by any official sources.
However, the account did accurately predict many of the features that would make up the recently released iPhone SE.
The iPad Pros, codenamed J517 and J522, are expected to go on sale in either Q1 or Q2 2021.
Earlier reports had suggested a release in the autumn or winter this year, but supply chain issues have pushed the production roadmap back slightly.
