Apple will launch an iMac with a 23-inch display for the first time later this year, according to a new report published by the China Times on Wednesday.
Leaks have been coming thick and fast for Apple’s 2020 release slate, and new details about what products could be unveiled in Q2 and Q3 are now starting to filter through.
The new report claims that the mass production of a 23-inch iMac is now ready to begin, with a potential launch date of July to September this year.
The new size for Apple’s all-in-one desktop is somewhat of a surprise as it has only offered 21.5-inch and 27-inch models during the last decade.
The report claims that the 23-inch iMac will share a similar footprint to the smaller model, so it appears that Apple may finally be ready to slim down the bezels and implement a new design after using the same chassis for eight years.
The iMac was last updated in 2019, with the 27-inch models receiving an eye-catching 5K display and updated internals, which included a 3.6GHz Intel Core i9 processor and an AMD Radeon Pro Vega 48 GPU.
The China Times did not mention the larger model, but it may be feasible that it could also get a display size increase before the end of the year.
A slimmer body could allow Apple to squeeze in a 30-inch display.
The rumoured release date for the new 23-inch iMac is Q3 2020, but with the impact of the coronavirus on supply chains, that date could yet be pushed back.
However, Apple was still able to unveil the second-gen iPhone SE last week, so its release schedule may not be as disrupted as originally feared.
Leaks from earlier this week claimed that a game controller and an iPad Mini would be among the potential releases in the coming months.
