Recently Spotlight on my MacBook Pro started having a problem where it couldn’t complete its indexing. While searching around for a solution I came upon this useful trick to force Spotlight into creating a new index without using the terminal.
All you need to do is go to the privacy tab in Spotlight preferences and add the volume you want reindexed by clicking the small + button. After around five minutes go back and remove it by selecting the volume and using the – button.
Spotlight should now reindex the volume and hopefully as in my case resolve any problems you have been having.
